Milovníkov turizmu a cyklistiky neodradila ani pandémia. Francúzi Peter (50) a Jana (47) sa pobalili aj s dcérou Katiou (17) a synom Alexom (14) a vybrali sa na tandemových bicykloch naprieč Európou.
Cestu začali od francúzsko-nemeckých hraníc z mestečka Saarbrücken a namierili si to do Prahy. Pohodovú cestu im však znepríjemnil dážď, ktorý v Nemecku spôsobil veľké záplavy. „Chytili nás dažde, ktoré zasiahli západonemecké časti. Boli to tri dni neustáleho dažďa, nemohli sme pokračovať a museli sme rozložiť kemp.
Cyklotrasy v okolí Saarbrückenu
Oblasť Saarbrückenu ponúka rozmanité možnosti pre cyklistov, od nenáročných trás pozdĺž riek až po náročnejšie MTB traily v okolitých kopcoch. Mesto a jeho okolie sú popretkávané sieťou cyklotrás, ktoré uspokoja každého cyklistu.
From the station forecourt, we first follow the cycle path signs to the Saarland and Saar cycle paths. After just a few meters, we reach the Saar at the Congress Hall and turn left towards St. Johanner Markt. We cycle directly along the Saar under the Berliner Promenade to the Old Bridge.
Our loop continues straight ahead towards St. Ingbert, but anyone who wants to can first take a small detour to the left to St. Johanner Markt and take a first break in one of the many pubs, bistros, and restaurants there. Back on our route, we pass through the parks by the State Theater and under the Bismarck Bridge to the Stadenanlagen. The Stadenanlagen are certainly the most popular green spaces in Saarbrücken.

In the middle, on nice weather days, two attractive beer gardens with cool drinks and ice cream invite you to linger. At the Römerbrücke heating plant, we cross over the Daarler Bridge to the other side of the Saar and follow the signs to the Saar cycle path towards Saareguemines. We cycle leisurely to the junction to St. Arnual. Here we leave the Saar and from now on follow the signs towards the German-French Garden.
We pass directly by St. Arnual Collegiate Church right in the middle of St. Arnual Market. Today's collegiate church dates from the 14th century. The Gothic building later received a baroque tower dome. Particularly impressive is the interior of the church with elaborately crafted tombstones of the Counts of Nassau-Saarbrücken.
At the beautifully located marketplace itself, there is another opportunity to take a break in one of the cozy inns. We continue through the village to the Tabaksweiher. Again, a guesthouse with a beer garden invites you to rest. The pond itself and especially the very scenic valley behind it are a popular leisure destination.
In the middle, a sign points to two excursion restaurants in the green. Back on the round route, it now goes up the only incline to the allotment gardens of Alt-Saarbrücken. But it is only about 40 meters and shortly after we reach the next park. Our cycle path even leads slightly downhill right through the German-French Garden.
Here, too, you can enjoy a nice break with a cool Radler in a number of bistros and restaurants. Above the Deutschmühlenweiher, we cycle to the main entrance through which we leave the garden towards Burbach. We pass the Calypso adventure pool to the Saarbrücken exhibition grounds. Here we cross the Saar again over the Europa Bridge.

For the bike and pedestrian path, a separate path was specially added to the steel structure of the bridge. Attention: directly behind the bridge, we turn sharply left down to the Saar towards Malstatt. Once again, it goes nicely along the Saar's bank to the Bürgerpark. The Bürgerpark on the former harbor island was redesigned a few years ago and has a boules court, a skate park, and many small meadows to rest.
Walking paths and small trails weave here into a network that allows exploring many enchanted corners. The rondel in the Bürgerpark serves as an open-air stage for music groups in the summer, and the terrace-shaped structure ensures everyone can see something. Always along the Saar, shortly after the Bürgerpark, we pass the Congress Hall again and reach the junction to the main station where we started our loop.
The route is asphalted throughout except for a short section in the German-French Garden. On the rather short route length of 13 km, only a small incline of about 40 m between the Tabaksweiher and the German-French Garden needs to be overcome. The route is suitable for children since it mostly leads along quiet paths away from car traffic. Only in some places are main roads crossed, and in St. Arnual the road must be briefly shared.
We start very comfortably on the Saarland cycle path upstream along the Saar towards France. On the completely newly and very comfortably upgraded cycle path, we pass directly along the upper Saar past Grosbliederstroff and Welferding to Sarreguemines. Two locks can be admired: They look like 100 years ago and are still in operation today.
We cycle under the railway bridge in Sarreguemines and turn right just under the first road bridge. Pushing the bikes, we go up onto the bridge and over the Saar. The newly installed French signage guides us through the town past the swimming pool and the Museum of Stoneware Technology onto the new cycle path along the country road over Blies-Guerswiller to Blies-Schweyen.

Here we cross into the German Bliesmengen-Bolchen and immediately encounter the turnoff to Gräfinthal. The small detour is worthwhile. The popular pilgrimage site Gräfinthal is counted among the religious and cultural-historically significant places in Saarland. The context of a historically shaped architectural ensemble in an intact landscape makes Gräfinthal, with its outstanding gastronomic offer, one of the most popular excursion destinations in the Bliesgau.
Back to the turnoff in Bliesmengen-Bolchen, our Saar-Bliesgau round leads us on the Saarland cycle path through the town and then parallel to the country road to Habkirchen. Just after Habkirchen, a particularly idyllic section begins through the floodplain landscape of the lower Blies. For a short time, we cross into France again and reach in Bliesbruck the Bliestal leisure path, a perfectly developed cycle path on the former railway track.
In Reinheim, a detour to the European Cultural Park Bliesbruck-Reinheim, a cross-border archaeology park, is possible. Away from all traffic, paved and completely flat, the Bliestal leisure path takes us through the floodplain landscape of the Blies. From time to time, we cycle past small villages. Former station buildings have now been turned into restaurants. Cycling could hardly be more beautiful.
But we turn left to Lautzkirchen station. Here there is the possibility to take the train to Saarbrücken and then cycle back along the Saar to the lock at Güdingen. From the station, we first go through Lautzkirchen. We now follow the Velo visavis route and the Bliesgau cycle path and after a few meters also the Saar-Nahe high cycle path.
For a short stretch, it goes through a small residential street in poor condition. Shortly afterwards, we reach Alschbach and follow the signs towards Biesingen. A small scenic gem opens up before us: the "Long Valley" with its meadows and fields framed by the wooded slopes of the Bliesgau. Horses stand in the paddock and everything invites you to look and enjoy.
At the end of the valley, the only significant climb of the entire route awaits: approx. 100 m up to Biesingen. In the town, the cycle paths separate and we follow the Saar-Nahe high cycle path branching off to the right in the direction of Heckendalheim. On an old Roman road, we cycle over the Bliesgau heights. On clear days, you can see the Vosges in the distance.
Via Seelbach and single farms (including the Bioland Bliesgau dairy with self-catering houses at Eichelberger Hof) we reach the Höhenweg path up to Heckendalheim. Here it goes slightly downhill and then once again particularly scenic to Saarbrücken-Ensheim airport. The descent into the Wogbach valley compensates for the climb in the Long Valley.

Via side paths and through town streets, it goes on to Güdingen and back over the Saar to the lock. We can end our extensive and beautiful day route in the garden restaurant with a view over the Saar. The route can be started directly from St. Johanner Markt in Saarbrücken. Over the Alte Brücke it goes in a north-easterly direction directly to the Saar cycle path.
The first section on the flat riverside path in the direction of Merzig can be considered a warm-up phase. Alternatively, you can also conveniently take the train to Merzig and start the route there. From there it continues more demanding. You steadily climb out of the Saar valley up to the heights of Saargau before descending into the Moselle valley.
After a short flat section on the Luxembourg side of the Moselle, it goes over Rhineland-Palatinate back into Saarland, where a climb into the Hochwald awaits. Through varied hill terrain, it finally goes across Saarland back to Saarbrücken.

Na záver ostanú len dvaja huslisti, ktorí tiež zhasnú svoje sviečky a vytratia sa do zákulisia. prinesie koncert 17.
